Marsh Harbour, Abaco, Bahamas - In honor of Penny Turtle, a beloved icon who has run tournaments for many years, Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour is pleased to announce the return of the Penny Turtle Invitational, June 15th -19th. This tournament holds fond memories for many and was a pioneering event for more than 15 years.  A team-oriented angling competition, this event will feature the living legend Penny Turtle as tournament host and promises to be a fun time for all involved. In addition, the Invitational will help raise money for the Cancer Society of the Bahamas.  Named one of the top 5 fishing spots in the world by Marlin Magazine, the Abacos are a dream location for top anglers to experience. And when it comes to where to stay, the Abaco Beach Resort is the ideal spot.

Southern Boating dubbed Penny "Queen of the Caribbean" in honor of all she has done for Bahamas fishing, and this tournament is a fitting show of appreciation for her outstanding efforts and many accomplishments. This unique invitational for her friends and loved ones will be dedicated to billfish conservation as well as providing a truly lavish and vibrant flavour for all participants.  In addition, the schedule will focus on the Bahamian traditions of Abaco Beach Resort at Boat Harbour with Penny's added flair.

The Penny Turtle Invitational will return on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 and conclude on Saturday, June 19.  Tournament Director Laurie Bass is thrilled to work directly with the legendary Penny Turtle herself.  "I'm excited to be a part of this event, especially because I’ve been friends with Penny since one of my first trips to Marsh Harbour," says Bass.  "Penny's style is impeccable and her attitude is infectious, so I know together we can bring this tournament back and that it will be something that stands out from all others."

Scoring for the Penny Turtle Invitational will be as follows:  600 points for a white or blue marlin and 250 points for a sailfish.  All releases must be verified by digital photograph or video.  All billfish must be caught and released using circle hooks.

Some proceeds from the tournament will benefit BASRA, Bahamas Air Sea Rescue Association.  BASRA is a dedicated non-profit voluntary organization committed to saving the lives of distressed seamen or airmen as the only dedicated search and rescue association in The Bahamas.  This group is supported by donations, grants and legacies from all sectors of the community.  For example, the Air Pilots of the Nassau Flying Club acts as the Air Wing and many persons in the family islands monitor the VHF on behalf of BASRA, and the Royal Bahamas Police Force cover the answering service.  The Royal Bahamas Defence Force, the DEA, Autec and the United States Coast Guard also assist BASRA with air and boat searches.  In a typical year, BASRA handles over 500 cases and has annual operating expenses of more than $125,000.

Invitations will be mailed out to Penny Turtle's friends and loved ones in March.  Contact Laurie Bass toll free at (888) 883-2890 or e-mail Laurie.Bass@AbacoBeachResort.com for more information.
